EIYŪ DENSETSU – ZERO NO KISEKI
(The Legend of Heroes - Trails from Zero, PSP version)
Role: main translator. Currently at 100% on 5th october 2016
Heavy QC play testing phase done for v4 patch, about 200 hours, 16th october 2016
Lots of stuff fixed.
-All images need to be edited.
-Hacker working on a Monster Notebook insert tool.
-Also working on eboot.
-On Vita ecfw TN-V, the game gives a lot of problems (texts that should be there are not displaying).
No problems if run with the ppsspp pc emulator.
-In editing hell since time immemorial https://geofront.esterior.net/
-A version 99.99%  translated was leaked by a tester. It's missing a heavy editing pass, other adjustments
and playtesting of the edited version. It's fully playable and understandable, but it's not the best experience you could get.

I'm glad that we are going to have an even better translation! Everyone who is working on this project is amazing, and they are really fast. Have a nice and well deserved rest Guren ;)

Unknown said...

Hi Guren! Really glad that you finished Ao :) Your translations are aligned with some of my favourite games. Which project will you be working on next? And will you be releasing the unedited patch or do we have to wait for flame and the others? Again, thank you!

Guren said...

1) Thanks!
2) No other projects, since it seems that every game I work on it turns out into a disaster or the projects gets stuck.
3) You will have to wait for the others to finish. They are about 42% done.

mario said...

thank you some much your detication inspired me to learn how to program to make my own projects

Unknown said...

I think you've been pretty amazing with this one. For a game of this size, you've been pretty damn quick translating. Not to be a jackass, but i think it's a bit more embarrassing spending over twice your time editing English into English than translating a game from scratch. Not sure when you started, but by the pace i observed from around 50% is anything to judge by then you're damn quick. Hats off to you, Guren!

Unknown said...

You did very well to finish Ao, zero and nahyuta. I wouldn't call them a disaster. You did good :) be proud. I never thought the crossbell arc would see the light of day in english. You made it possible. Thanks a lot!

Guren said...

Johnny, I'm not doing anything at all, my mother language is not English and that's why a lot of things sound strange in English. I think Flame and Kawaii are basically fixing mostly what I translated and reworking some things. That's also why they are going very fast, they don't have to go through the entire text but "just" about 2/3. I think. The things I fixed are typos, inconsistencies and some mistranslations. The other guys are woring on the grammar and sentences flow.

Yuva, Zero translation was leaked without a second reading and needed fixes, EXXIV is stuck, I did hundreds of fixes for Nayuta but I don't think there has ever been an updated version and Ao is in this situation. Better stick to manga.

Also, I think all people in this thread will see this message so I'm taking this opportunity to tell you that this thread is about to reach 200 posts. Blogger has got a bug that can't load more than 200 comments in "embedded" form, so I'll have to switch to a full page or pop up version mode. Basically you won't see the thread like this with the embedded replies anymore but just a succession of posts. Really ugly.

Guren said...

Thanks, and good luck with that. I don't know to program anything and I'm too lazy to learn :(

Ale said...

Hello Guren, thanks again for answering our questions. I would like to know if the translated Ao will be a ISO already patched, or if we have to patch the JAP ISO ourselves? If thats the case, i would like to know how. Thanks again!

Risax said...

So, stupid question but where can I download the English patches for Ao no Kiseki and Zero no Kiseki when they are done? Will you be posting them here? Or is there a different site for them?

Guren said...

You'll have to patch it yourselves. It should be released in xdelta format, one of the easiest format to patch things.

Guren said...

https://geofront.esterior.net/ for Zero, while for Ao I'll mirror the link here too.

Unknown said...

still no news for the translated ao kiseki?

Guren said...

It's about 54%. So they say.

Unknown said...

In seems the patch would take some time to come out huh ? No problem, You guys have already done great work. My question is how long is the game. Is it as big as SC or bigger ?

Rheitalass said...

Hey, Guren, thank you a bunch for all the work you've put in. You don't need to respond, just know that I and basically everyone in my circle of friends who love kiseki appreciate the hell out of what you've done.

That being said, I've developed this horrible habit of obsessively checking this blog for updates on the status of the Ao patch. The trend seems to be an update on it every 5-7 days; is there any new word about it?

No hard feelings if this gets ignored. I understand that you're super burnt out and I hope you're doing something more relaxing with your time these days.

Guren said...

I can't really say, since I played it doing even the most stupid things so my total play time does not reflect what a "normal" player would do. I can tell tough that you'll be satisfied by its lenght. It "feels" exactly like a kiseki game. Meaning, if you want to do everything in a couple of runs, it will drain you. Keeping multiple saves are a given, if you want to see all the possible unique events in a certain place and for the bonding events.

Guren said...

@Rheitalass: I usually get an update on monday or tuesday. It's now 67% done. So Flame says.

kane said...

I would also suggest you release your patch on https://www.romhacking.net/ so more people know about it.

Guren said...

I think that website has got a limit of 29 or 30MB for patches, and the slightly edited one is 53.9MB while the fully edited one will be probably a little bigger than that.

Unknown said...

Hello Guren, any news regarding the editing?

Unknown said...

Thank you so much for your hard work ! Kiseki fan here, i hope all goes well. I can't wait.

Unknown said...

no offense but any about ao ?

Guren said...

It's 60% done. I wrote 67% last week but it turned out they got the % of NPC lines wrong. There were a lot more lines than what they estimated.

Unknown said...

I finished CSII just now and i cant help but wondering what exactly happen in crossbell @_@.

But i wont nag you about when the patch is done , cuz im happy as long as i can play it in the end.

So thanks for translating it guys!! Keep up the good work!

I think i should play something else to keep my mind off of zemuria continent for a while.

Unknown said...

I've played Zero and I can say with certainty its thousand times better than Gagharv Triology Translation so really, you did a great job, being undermanned, not funded, all of which, the gagharv triology translators had and I'm pretty sure translating gagharv was easier. So yes, you did well. That's just how I feel like it.

Guren said...

It seems it's 76% done, so Flame says.

Unknown said...

Could you pin the link once its done? And thank you again for all the hard work! I've been following this since last year ever since I heard from geofront that you are working on it. And I must say it was always fun to come here on a near daily basis and see the progress bar go up. I really do wish you'd take up another project. O understand if you have real life problem but if you could take up a new translation project, I'd play it.

Luminous Arc 3 or Summon Night X Tears Crown both sounds like cool projects to take but you can do anything you like and trust me I'd be there supporting you all the way! Thanks!

Unknown said...

Hello again. How fares the current progress on Ao? Or have you not received an update yet?

Guren said...

Thanks, but I'll hardly undertake another project. I have lost interest in anything.

Guren said...

Oh, about the progress, I received an update yesterday's afternoon but I had to go out, do stuff and so on. When I came back I had dinner and forgot to post it, I just fell asleep in front of the PC while watching an episode of the USA edition of The Voice. I was woken up by one of Kelly Clarkson's screams and noticed your message, Hopeful. And so, it seems it's 92% complete. Please don't assume it will be released next week. Also, according to an exchange I had with Flame some time ago, it seems nothing will be tested and you end users are going to be guinea pigs. I surely don't want to playtest everything again. I'm totally sick and tired of Ao and videogames in general.

Adam E. said...

Since you mention players being guinea pigs, would there be possibilities for any gamebreaking bugs? Also, even if you're not doing any more, would someone else on your team make an updated patch, assuming there was a problem?

Guren said...

I don't know about game text breaking bugs, we got down the max number of characters the game can show in particular scenes that were problematic, and Flame knows very well that stuff. And if something breaks, I think a patch will be done. There's only 1 game breaking bug that won't be resolved. It only happens if you load save data from chapters ends among different patch versions. The game crashes. You can load any other type of save among different patches, though. It's a mystery why it crashes only in those 5 or 6 cases.

Unknown said...

Hello hello, any progress info yet? thx for answer

Guren said...

Hi, the news is that they're getting there and I helped to fix some stuff this week, the other news is that FLame is on vacation until the 7th of May and he most likely won't have access to a pc until then.

Unknown said...

Let me open to say that I really appreciate your work, you went above and beyond the call of duty. I also appreciate the work of all the editors who work on this.

I want, to ask for one clarification, to sate my selfish unpatience a litle. Above, it was said that Flame, one of the editors, is at vacation without access to a pc until May the 7th. As I understand your previous posts, there is at least one other editor. So I ask this: will said situation merely delay the editing process speed , as fewer people work on it, or will it outright halt it until May the 7th?

Thanks again to everyone involved, I do not want to pressure you, just to know.

Unknown said...

Thanks for the replies, we are almost there! I'm glad to hear everything is almost done, waiting a few more weeks or months in order for a game as massive as Ao no kiseki to be completely edited and translated is not an issue. Just the fact that it is almost ready is incredible! Thanks a lot for your work.

Unknown said...

Thanks for the updates and your hard work. Waiting additional weeks or months is no issue at this point. Translating and editing such a game is incredible. Thanks again!

Guren said...

Thanks Sartigan.
Xenahort, from what I saw the other editor is done with his/her work on it, so what remains to be done (I don't know what, aside building the entire patch) will slow down to a crawl.

Unknown said...

So we wait until flame comeback from his vacation? Im so sad at this point... I thought it will release this week for sure.. and now we wait at least a month again... Zetsubou... :(

Dr_Jones said...

Excellent work you're doing. Take your time, I hope to play it during my summer holiday. I'll spend my vacation in Crossbell again :-D

Arthur Tezla said...

I'm dying by this "92%" haha

Unknown said...

Thank you for your hard work!
I'm glad there's someone who put a huge effort to translate crossbell series of kiseki games, keep it up bruh! We are really appreciate what you've done!

Shenmuehua said...

Any news from Flame?

Thanks again for the hard work.

Guren said...

Lol, the % is stuck there because I don't know what Flame is taking into consideration (script only? All the other text too?) but it's getting closer, tidbits by tidbits. Even now.

Unknown said...

Hello.. any news from flame? Or he's not come back yet...

Guren said...

No news. I don't know where he is, if he's back and so on.

Unknown said...

If interested, flame has been posting on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/user/flamethrower2/comments/?sort=new&before=t1_dyq9oi1&count=26

Last post is about an hour ago, so he is around, and you should be able to reply by sending messages directly to him on that account. And yes, it is him and not someone with a similar name, since one of the posts talks about his work on Ao a month or so ago.

hyun said...

Anyway guys the ao is playable till the end of chapter 1 or can be playable more? cause when u get the car the game simple get a black screen and wont load more on psp emulator so this is the game bug or is translate bug?

Guren said...

The patch isn't even out, so I don't know what you're saying or what you're playing. In the betas I have, the car never gave a single problem, it was the buses that crashed the game when you skipped their cutscenes, but that's fixed.

Unknown said...

Hey Guren, Since It's Tuesday can you give us an update ? If flame is back of course. :)

Unknown said...

Can we got some news about this game.. its already 2-3 weeks... i check this site everyday hopefully get to see 100% and patch is out.. what % are we now.. or is someone still working on this or did it just abandoned at 92%...

Guren said...

The news is that he's back and I saw him fixing stuff here and there. I took away the estimate % since it's useless now. Whatever will be, will be. Also, instead of checking every single day if something happens, I suggest to install a free plugin for your browser that can monitor pages. As soon as there's a change in this page, you see a number next to the plugin icon in the browser. I do that to keep track of a lot pages. It's not ideal for forums though. Try giving a look on google or in the chrome web store.

jeremysczep said...

I had the same issue when i tried to play it couple months back. I googled around trying to find anything about it and ended up here.

Guren said...

It shouldn't even be my role to write this since I don't know what you're playing, but problems like that can be due to anything...a bad original dump, a bad patch, a patch not tested that has text problems, a badly patched game due to an error while patching, not using the very last version of the emulator...
If even you too have problems when getting the car and coming back, you can try to load your save within the japanese original version, see if the game goes on without problems, save when you can and load this new save into wathever patched game you're playing.
If you don't understand Japanese you'll lose the foreshadowing about the redhaired guy (you have to connect the dots yourself though, by thinking about what R and M say and what happens there) and then the dialogues when you meet Ries for the first time (the fact that Elie knows her but she wants her to keep her status a secret...and that Ries likes to go to places to eat stuff...that glutton).

Unknown said...

Hi guren thanks for your hardwork, same as your team for translating the game. I was wondering if there's any news for ao no kiseki? Thank you. :D

Unknown said...

I cant find the 92%.. is it complete ? :D

KY said...

Hi Guren, since the editing is mostly done should we expect the patch soon or is it still gonna be a while? I just wanna set my expectations. Thanks for your hard work!

Guren said...

It's not, it's still in editing phase. I took away the 92% because it's useless, I don't have any update to make that % go up or down. I saw Flame flagged some files with a red line under them, so I guess those have to be fully re-checked (and there's a lot of lines to do). You aren't the only ones waiting for this to be released. I have to cope up with my girlfriend pestering me every day with a "is it out finally?" since mid march, after she finished playing the last beta and wanted to do an NG+ with the updated translation since then. I'm almost starting to fall out with her.

Guren said...

1) Hi guys, I haven't been receiving comment notifications from Blogger since May 21... Today I found more than a hundred messages to moderate that I was never notified, I went to check myself in the website options and I found them there. Not only comments from this entry, but from all other entries and pages too. Something must've broken? I remember HappyScans too had zero comments on all entries for some time and just this week they started to show up again.
2) I hate recaptcha too. Comments need to be moderated due to increasing spam messages. Not the "when are you going to release this??!!1!" but people promoting betting sites, kinky sites and the likes. I don't want that stuff on my blog.
3) About the romhacking stuff, I was told by the leaker itself he had put it there. I asked why he used my name to upload it (I don't have an account there) and he replied he used his own account and nick to submit it. Maybe a mod changed it? So, I always had permission from Flame to release it, but he said he would have rather preferred not. So I told him I wouldn't have. This was after the beta10 at the end of february. Some other typos were to be corrected on a beta11 but it was never put together. On the site it says it was released on feb 28, but that's wrong, that's the patch date. The guy who leaked it told me he did it on July 5. Or 4, I don't remember. So it's not something that was kept secret, it was deliberately done after some events on my side some days ago. I also remember giving him permission to use my pc to move a certain file to his psp. He probably grabbed the patch too without telling me. After all, that file and all the different betas, sheets, notes, read me and stuff are sitting here on my desktop in plain view... I guess I have to start hiding stuff among random windows folders again. This was at the beginning of March, so he always had the patch without me knowing.
Why did he leak it? For revenge, and I don't want to dig into this any further.
4) So, yup, the patch is the real deal, it shouldn't crash anywhere, there're still typos, bad grammar, literal translations, mistranslations (Sully talking about a church, Fran talking about "support" and some others). The prologue has some weird things too (it was done by a girl I forgot her name. When I started on Ao that part was already done and wasn't touched much more, aside from the tutorial and some other things.) There's also a glitch in the save files due to Noel name's having the e with the two dots above it showing up as the katakana A.
5) Is Flame still working on this? Well, he was until some minutes ago, so...yes? I don't know in the future though.

Unknown said...

It's funny, I was wondering how you guys could have missed some of these glitches we see, especially after the delay.. now I see it was leaked. It's still awesome guys you did this, worked and translated it for the fans, please don't give up on finishing it though. Yes it's out, yes fans are playing it, but just think of it as a public test instead of as a leak. Yes there are issues that still need to be adjusted, but are they game breaking? No.. in fact most of them I've seen so far are actually funny lol (having your entire team called the lead character, or having that girl grab Lloyd sprite and play with his chest when it's suppose to be Elie)

So, I still want to thank all of you for your hard work in this, and hopefully your not discouraged by a thief/leaker and still want to put out the final version when you finish it.

Guren said...

Considering I made two full runs, I never got those glitches; I don't understand the first one and I remember that Shirley always "plays" with Elie... Known glitches are all cheat related. With the infinite item cheat or item multipliers and the IBC card with you, you can visit IBC when you're not supposed to and talk again to Mariabell...to her chair. There's no sprite (she's on a business trip, after all). Same cheat, talking to Rebecca the first time with a fragment in the inventory or selecting the give fragment option later in the game will unlock all the scenes for the DG Cult database, even those with Tio although she's not with you, and then the game will crash when the achievement appears. The first time you have to unlock the database with the last fragment at the beginning of chapter 5, while on the NG+ I think it doesn't matter. Same cheat, you could get stuck at Michelam if you deactivate the cheat (completely going back to xmb) and don't keep at least five NPCs to invite to the attractions, since you need to consume those tickets for the story/time to move on. Same cheat, if you try to exchange medals for a fishing bait set at the casino, the game will crash. With the auto fishing cheat you could get stuck in one or two anglers duels... And so on. I really don't remember normal glitches unless there's a cheat involved.

Unknown said...

I'm not sure if you want these put here or not, but since you have it set to approve comments.

I have run into a game stop/break bug.

Chapter 1, Day 2 - mission to investigate the residents of the houses... in downtown, part where the door is locked, you go through the part where you talk to the previous owner, then he is suppose to walk over to the door and speak with who is inside, but he appears to get stuck because of a glitched sprite (which happens anytime I've noticed when the player is no longer in control of the characters movements), he walks into the sprite (on my screen it's the green haired guy--don't want to say the name bas to spoil it for people who haven't played yet) and can not walk through it or around it.

Not sure if it matters on your side, but I'm using the PPSSPP v 1.4.2

The glitch appears to be that when you lose control, the character who is leading your party to start combat or talk is auto moved to the location it's needed for story, but the other 3 will not move (or in the case of the 5th guest character, the little girl) and the glitched sprites of the others stay exactly where they are when the screen loads (like where you would be standing at the start of a new area - entry point- they are stacked on top of each other except the character you control who moves to the location and the other sprites are not there)

I hope this helps you guys with your troubleshooting and editting

Unknown said...

OH FYI, I just found a way around my previous comment with the glitch.. knowing the npc can't walk through the glitched sprites, if you force the scene to have the sprites in a different location (like for example go up the stairs then back down so they will be on the stairs when you interact with the door and start the scene), it will continue.

I can make some screenshots if it will help you of how to cause the glitch and avoid the glitch, and also any other glitches I come across (like the name glitch which I still find funny). But no, I don't use any cheats at all

cads2 said...

just wanna say thank you for your team's hardwork even though the game wasn't intentionally released lol. about the glitch though, i assume those who found the sprites glitches and wrong name in text panel are playing in emulator. i have the problem now solved. simply dont ever use save state and play the game normally without save-stating. i even use HD texture + 60fps cheat and i haven't encountered any problem so far

Unknown said...

I am on chapter 2 and had no bugs so far. It's a blast to play!
I don't mean any disrespect to Flame and you Guren (i love you guys, you're amazing) but I'm happy the translation, even if in beta, was leaked.
Now instead of just waiting the full edit i can play this amazing game (I think the translation is pretty good, i noticed only a few typos) and the time i finish it the full edit version will probably be out so i can replay it again in all it's glory ^_^.

mademan2 said...

Well despite it being just a leak it is still good enough to be understandable, which is far more than the previous version, we are super grateful to you all for your hard work :) But of course I cant wait for the full version, I will wait for me ng+ for that :)
